Golfing Plus in Sunny Spain! An Adventure to Remember!

Malaga Spain MapJust returned from a wonderful week of golf in Spain! My friend Noreen and I traveled from cold, windy Boston to Zurich, Switzerland and then on to the shores of the Mediterranean and the south coast of Spain. In Malaga we were greeted by our golfing friends from Dublin, Liz and Chantal. They each have homes in Marbella not too far from the airport. Within an hour we were settled in and planning our week of golf and touring.

The plan: three days of golf at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina; shopping and dining along the to the “med” (Mediterranean Sea) for shopping and to Ronda to walk El Caminito del Rey (“The most Spectacular Walkway in the World.”)

We played golf, ate and shopped, but whimped out on the walkway! (Check out these images and you’ll know why!)

Real Club de Golf Guadalmina: North and South courses, plus a par 3 course for short game practice.  At this time of year (February) the fairways play hard and fast with great roll! And the greens are equally fast. At moments it was like putting on glass. It took a bit of time to get used to the course, but after a few holes I was able to anticipate how my ball would react. Bottom line: the fairways were wide and long, the sand traps forgiving and the greens difficult!

The most picturesque holes, the 10th and 11th holes on the south course, hug the seaside. Fortunately for us the wind was calm and did not interfere with play, but on a windy day, playing those two holes must be a real challenge.

Dry creek beds interrupt the fairways on the North course. I sent a couple of balls into the creeks! No water, thankfully and was able to rescue my golf balls both times. The courses have enough variety to make each round a challenge. I welcome the opportunity to play them again someday.

Green Fees: (as of February 2018) North Course – 96 Euros / South Course – 155 Euros  Buggy rental – 45 Euros

. . . . .

Aprés Golf Adventures: We traveled into the mountains north of Marbella to the village of Ronda, visited the oldest bull ring in Spain, dined on lovely tapas at Restaurante Don Miguel, observed the El Caminito del Rey walkway from a very safe distance, and generally had a wonderful time.

Thanks for sharing Pat! You’ve had some awesome golfing adventures in the past year. Looking forward to our Tee Club trip to Gulf Shore. Thanks for getting the ball rolling on that.

Also, has golfgurls hear of the Square Strike Wedge? Just wondering, see you soon!

I haven’t used the Square Strike wedge but I do think it’s on to something. I use a specialty club from Cleveland that is meant for just chipping. Works well for me. This club might be worth checking out. Let me know if you do try it.
