Test Your Golf Knowledge – Water Hazards!

Bookmark and Share

You just hit your ball into an area of the golf course marked with YELLOW stakes which indicates a water hazard. There is a pond, but you are pretty certain your ball is sitting in the mud just to the right of the pond itself. You find your ball. What are your options?

  • If you can find your ball and you’re willing to get mud on your shoes, you can play the ball from the hazard without a penalty.
  • If the ball is lost or you are unwilling to get muddy, you must choose one of two options:
  1. Go back to the original spot from which you hit the ball and hit again and take a one-stroke penalty.
  2. Note the spot at which the ball last crossed the edge of the hazard, and keeping the spot and the hole in line, go back as far as you wish, drop the ball and take a one-stroke penalty.
