Sweet Spot Golf Putter Review

SweetSpotGolf pink putterGolfgurls.com is often asked to review products for our readers. One of the more interesting products to be delivered to our front door is the Sweet Spot Golf Putter with its hallmark hot pink color markings. (A portion of the proceeds from the sale of their golf clubs is donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which explains the hot pink! – The club comes in a variety of colors – but they sent us the pink to review.)

Their website explains their philosophy.

This club is not for the faint of heart. So if you don’t want to be that different, turn around and go back the way you came. Go on. Go.

We asked six women to try out the putter during a round of golf and report their findings here. The putter got mixed reviews.

We asked each of the women to focus on style, appearance, feel, balance, weight, effective stroke and rate each of these elements on a scale of 1 – 5 with 5 being “great.”

Overall, the average score from our reviewers fell between a 1 and a 3. The most notable comment was the initial reaction to the style and appearance of the putter itself. Even before they held it in their hands, five of the six women noted the color and thought it was too bright and distracting. But one of the six really liked the look of the club, so I expect it really is a matter of taste. This putter’s style is definitely one that stands out from the crowd. If that’s your style, you might like it a lot.

As far as the feel of the putter, the sense of weight and balance — the average review was a 2. One of the women commented that the bottom of the putter felt a bit “rounded” and the head seemed to rock back and forth when she rested the club on the green. She admitted it might be just the way she holds the club and if she used the SweetSpot Putter, it would take a bit of getting used to.

The one thing most liked was the sound the putter made if you hit the ball correctly. Not exactly a “ping”— more like a “ting” sound, but it meant the club hit the ball squarely.

The Bottom Line: SweetSpotGolf.net, with it’s unique and dramatic club head design, has made its line of golf clubs stand out from the crowd. Every club in their line has the same vivid coloring. This may be marketing genius, but I’m afraid it actually prejudiced these reviewers against the club. Their initial reaction was one of skepticism and it carried through to the final and most important questions: Would you purchase this club for yourself? Would you recommend it to another player? The answer to both questions from each of our 6 reviewers, was a negative.

This isn’t the end of the story, however. There is definitely a market for this line of golf clubs.

If you are a golfer who loves to try new things and are willing to take a chance on this new line of clubs, we suggest you check out their website and click on the link to become a Besta Tester. I have the Sweet Spot putter in the hot pink. I actually am “in love” with this putter. I hit it almost every time into the hole. I think it has something to do with the weight that has helped me with my putting. I don’t know what would be distracting about it…. the women I play with are either interested in it or not. The ones I have allowed to use it, have like the feel of it. I am no pro but a beginner. It just works for me for whatever reason.

I have been using the Sweet Spot driver, hybrids and putter for over at least two years now.
    I LOVE THESE PRODUCTS.
I am the reigning club champ at our local club for 3 years in a row and I attribute my last year’s win to using the Sweet Spot putter. I was having problems with the traditional putters and couldn’t line up putts, but I started using the Sweet Spot putter and alignment issues are now gone.
YES, the color can be distracting for more “traditional” players, but for the most part it’s more distracting for my competitors than it is for me.
My husband has stated on more than one occasion that if they made a LH driver, he would buy it in a heartbeat. Since using the Sweet Spot drive, I have added 50-75 yards on my drives.
I have and will continue to recommend Sweet Spot products to anyone who plays the game. It’s a product I believe in and can help the average female golfers game.

Thanks Bonnie for your feedback. I think you make some really good points. One of the key points being it really is a matter of personal experience and preference. Brian Allman, the President of Sweet Spot just sent me his feedback which we just posted as well. We hope to do a review of the hybrids in the line once the weather warms up here on Cape Cod… and I will certainly keep your ideas in mind when I seek out potential reviewers. Thanks again for your comments. Always welcome.

I had the same thought… about the golfers being more “traditionalists”… I would say they are more the competitive type, have been playing for a few years (there’s a club champ among them)… but they all had the same initial response to the look of the putter… I’m not sure they gave it a good workout because of that. They did like the “ting” sound, though.

I’m thinking the women who tried the Sweet Spot Putter for you must have been quite a traditional group… and/or highly competitive golfers. I say that because none of the folks I play with… mainly mid-handicappers… have found it distracting or “too bright” in fact, after using mine several… including one guy… ordered them. In pink. :o)
