Callaway HXBite Golf Ball – For Distance and Green-Grabbing Control: Review

I’ve been testing a few new golf balls and for my last round, I decided to try out the new Callaway HXBite. I wrote a post a while back – How To Choose The Right Golf Ball For Your Game and determined to put the strategy into practice.

Callaway HXBite Golf BallsI’ve used Callaway balls in the past and had mixed results. I can’t always blame the golf ball. I’m just your average weekend duffer who is always trying to improve. There are many times when my score is what it is more because of my need for more practice rather than my choice of golf ball. But choosing the right ball does make a difference. Golf, after all, is a mental game as well as a physical one. I know some players who start off a round with a brand new ball but when they are playing over water, switch off to an old one they found under a bush — “just in case I lose it in the pond.” This makes no sense. It seems to me that they are setting themselves up to lose the ball. Get it into your head that the ball might go in the water and 9 times out of 10 it will end up there!

I’ve shied away from using Callaway golf balls since that one day at Dennis Pines when I bought a new sleeve of their HX Hot Plus and lost every one of them in the woods. Clearly, three in the woods does not mean they were bad balls. It was just a very bad day of golf for me, still— I got it into my head that Callaway golf balls and I were not a good match.

But when I got to the pro shop there was a new display full of bright green boxes of Callaway HXBite Golf Balls. They are a new product and the description promised distance and control – two things I need in my game.

“New core technology delivers improved spin separation resulting in longer, straighter shots. The softer feel and tighter play around the green are the result of an improved cover.”

The advertising sounded convincing. I decided to put aside my negative Callaway vibes and test them out.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I still ended up in the woods once or twice, but when I hit the ball well, I got great distance, straight down the fairway. My drives were longer than usual by at least 20 yards, and my putting was spot on. This ball really delivered what it promised.

Not only that—  the packaging is bright green, which to me is a sign of hope! Something my game needs! You may laugh at this remark, but I wager that Callaway’s advertising agency spent mucho $$$ trying to strategize the best color to use to convince me to pick up a sleeve. Golf is, after all, a mental game.

The HXBite 12-Pack normally lists for $36.00/box but you can get them from amazon.com for $29.86 with free shipping. Click here: Callaway HX Bite 2010 Golf Balls (12-Pack) to order a box for yourself.

I give the HXBite Golf Balls 4 Tees!

. . . . .

Have you tried the new HXBite from Callaway? What do you think?
