Jack Nicklaus and The Basic Golf Swing: Keep It SIMPLE!

Looking to shape your golf shots? When you are playing a round of golf it’s not unusual to be facing a hole with a dogleg left or right, or a group of trees on one side of the fairway that you want to avoid hitting. You will need to fade or draw a shot to get around a corner or past an obstruction on the course.

In very simple terms, famous golfer Jack Nicklaus describes how to shape your shots. A fade is a shot that starts left and bends slightly to the right; a draw goes in the opposite direction, it starts right and bends slightly to the left. These are controlled shots. You choose the degree of bend by the direction of your stance and the angle of your golf club head.

One piece of advice – try this on the driving range first. You need to learn to control the shape of your shots or you will end up with some serious hooks and slices. Hooks go left and slices go right. No direction, no control.

Practice first on the golf range before you try these shots in a golf round.
